Last weekend was my daughter’s birthday. My husband is quite the culinary genius, and is especially talented at baking. So instead of a traditional birthday cake, he came across this idea for making ice cream bowls made out of sugar cookies. It was an instant hit, and it tasted amazing.

An actual picture of my daughter's balloon-shaped bowl.

Here is the recipe he used:

The recipe given does not mention this, but it is always a good idea to wrap the dough in saran wrap and place in the freezer for about 20 minutes to make it easier to work with. Also, he added about 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips to the dough and omitted the almond oil to let the buttery flavor stand out more. Once the bowls were cooled, they were filled with ice cream with our favorite toppings: chocolate and/or butterscotch syrup, sprinkles, and of course, candles for the birthday girl!
