Summer is around the corner, and with it, the dreaded electric bill. But don’t give up hope (and your wallet,) there are some simple and easy ways to keep your house cool without keeping the air conditioner on full blast.
~ Keep the vents in any rooms you don’t use often, such as guest rooms, closed until needed. Your air conditioner won’t have to work as hard to keep the rest of the house cool. And there is a good chance that they might be housing a lot of dust inside, impeding the air flow. Call in experts from austinductcleaning.us and expunge the dirt in the ducts.
~ Shade the air conditioner unit without blocking airflow. Try planting bushes or trees near it, or installing an awning to shade it.
~ Use compact fluorescent bulbs instead of regular incandescent bulbs. They produce about a fifth of the heat without sacrificing brightness.
~ Keep the east and west windows well shaded.
~ Replace your air filter once a month to keep the air conditioner working at peak efficiency.
~ Air dry your dishes instead of using the heat dry cycle in the dishwasher.
~ Turn off all electronics not in use.
~ Do not turn the air conditioner off during the day when nobody is home, instead set it to 78-80 degrees and make sure all the blinds are closed and shades are down. Turning the air on after a whole day of inactivity will force the unit to work harder to cool the house, and will cause it to wear down faster, and it costs about the same as keeping it running all day.
