Hiring a maid service is one of life’s most appreciated pleasures. Between work, having a life, and for some: kids, and/or pets, it can be very taxing to keep your home as clean as you would like. But often the biggest question of hiring a cleaning service, is how often should they come? Some prefer every week (or more,) and some only need monthly, and there are options in between. So how do you decide what is best for you? Take this quick and easy quiz to find out!

1. How many pets do you have?
A. None
B. One
C. Two or more

2. How many people live in your house?
A. One
B. Two or three
C. Four or more

3. How much do you enjoy cleaning on your own?
A. Very much!
B. The basics in maintenance are fine
C. None! I want no part of it!

4. How picky are you about the cleanliness of your home?
A. Extremely picky
B. Somewhat picky, but not obsessive
C. I don’t really notice until it gets bad

5. How organized is your home?
A. I don’t keep any clutter, and everything has a specific place
B. Pretty well, I’m not messy but things can be a little out of place here and there

If you answered mostly A’s, your best option is monthly. You enjoy cleaning from time to time, you just don’t want to have to spend a much needed weekend off here and there cleaning, when you could be out enjoying yourself.

If you answered mostly B’s, your best option is bi-weekly. Although a little maintenance cleaning is fine, you are far too busy to worry about the state your home is in all the time.

If you answered mostly C’s, your best option is weekly. You are constantly on the go, and if you had to worry about cleaning on your own, you would never get any rest!

How To Choose A Cleaning Service

Having a cleaning service is very useful in helping to keep your life in order. Between work, kids, pets, and/or whatever you have going on, keeping your house under control can be a real challenge. But how do you choose the best one for you? It’s important to know exactly what you’re getting into, and knowing the right questions to ask to get what you want in a maid service. So here are a few guidelines that will help you through the process.

1. Is the company insured and bonded? Never let anyone into your home before you know for sure that they are. This will protect you from being held accountable for anything being broken, lost, and anyone getting hurt. Some companies will skimp on paying this expense to keep their prices down, but if anything happens, it will likely have to come out of your pocket.

2. Does the company run background checks on all of their employees? I don’t think I need to elaborate on why this is so important. ALWAYS make sure checks are done. If the company says no or won’t give you a straight answer, hang up and move on.

3. What services do they offer? This information will vary from company to company. For example, some services won’t do baseboards, and some include it on every cleaning. Before you begin looking for a company, you need to make a list of what you want cleaned, and see if a company can tailor their service to you. 4. What WON’T the company do? Find out the limitations of the service, such as reaching high places and cleaning behind furniture.

5. What products do they use? If you want limited or no chemicals used, you always want to let them know. Many companies advertise as being green, but will use products that are publicized as such because they are “mostly green” or “packaged from recycled material.” Some companies offer cleaning either way, or a mix of the two, depending on what you want.

6. How is their pricing? Almost every company has different ways of charging for their service. Do they charge hourly or is there a fixed rate? Call me biased, but I’ve never had great experiences with hourly. For example, I once hired a moving company who charged by the hour, and took 5 hours to move out what a previous company with a fixed rate took 2 hours to move in. Also, be wary of maid services who have a “too good to be true” price tag…that usually means some expenses are being sacrificed that you don’t want to be a part of, such as insurance, employee taxes, background checks, sales tax, and good quality products.

Clean Green and Save the World?

If someone told you that the simple act of cleaning your house with the right cleaning products could help reduce landfill and toxic chemicals…would you believe them? Believe it or not it is true. By purchasing green cleaning products you not only get the satisfaction of a clean house that was cleaned with safe products, but you also get the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing your part to help the environment. Green products are now everywhere. All you have to do is pay attention to the label or order from a website that you trust.

If you want a shocking revelation, go to your cleaning pantry and take out a bottle of cleaning solution. Now take the time to read all of the ingredients. It is probably a long, laundry list of chemicals that many of you have probably never heard of or do not know what the purpose is. There is a way around it though. Green cleaning products are organic and are actually good for the health of your family, home and environment. Most containers are able to be refilled and cost about the same as those with harsh chemicals.

 

Cleaning For a Reason, Bit a Bliss Gives Back

Bit a Bliss Cleaning particpates  in Cleaning For a Reason.  Fighting cancer is difficult enough, but living with it is even tougher – and that’s where the Cleaning for A Reason Foundation steps in.  This newly formed nonprofit offers free professional housecleaning, and maid services to improve the lives of women undergoing treatment for cancer - any type of cancer.  This foundation was started in Lewisville, TX and now has 613 partners in the U.S. and Canada.  You can learn more at their website http://www.cleaningforareason.org/
